The Saka kurgan, on the site of which they initially wanted to make an open-air museum and then a park area, is still not going to be destroyed. This was stated by the akim of the Bostandyk district of Almaty, Azamat Kaldybekov, at a meeting with journalists. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
Concerns that it would not survive could have been caused by the authorities' decision regarding another kurgan on 20th Line Street. In May, it was razed to the ground to build a road to a school on this site. At the same time, the burial of the early Iron Age was at least 2 thousand years old.
As for the kurgan on Rozybakiev Street, it is planned to be improved. Various urbanist project options are being considered, one of which is to make a pedestrian zone on the kurgan, plant it with shrubs, and install a Baiterek tree in the center.
"This will be a pedestrian zone, the kurgan itself will remain," Kaldybekov noted.
As clarified by Kursiv Lifestyle in the akimat of the Bostandyk district, when the improvement will begin is not yet known.
Let us add that next to the kurgan, by September, they plan to complete the improvement of the SHUAQ square on Dunaevsky Street. On its territory, the investor intends to make a fountain, a children's playground, and a sports ground.
