An explosion at the port of Rotterdam in the Netherlands on Thursday killed at least one person and injured several others. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Associated Press.

According to city police, the blast occurred at Europe's biggest port on Thursday morning. A crime scene has been set up to establish the cause.

Rotterdam emergency services reported a major power failure at the port and said a transformer had caught fire under unexplained circumstances. Power was gradually being restored to companies in an industrial area a few hours later.

The port hosts a number of oil and gas companies, and fire crews were standing by.
