Portugal defeated Croatia 2-1 in the World Cup round of 32, ending Luka Modric's fifth bid for a World Cup. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Associated Press.

The match took place in Toronto. Croatia opened the scoring in the 53rd minute through Ivan Perisic. However, in the 68th minute, Cristiano Ronaldo equalized from a penalty kick, his first knockout stage goal at a World Cup.

After the match ended 1-1 in regulation, Goncalo Ramos headed in a pass from Rafael Leao in stoppage time to give Portugal the lead. Croatia thought they had equalized in the final moments through Mario Pasalic, but VAR ruled offside, and the goal was disallowed. Angered Croatian fans threw bottles onto the field and whistled in protest.

Portugal will face the winner of the Netherlands vs. Argentina match in the next round.
