Chinese humanoid robot Unitree G1 named Pemba has for the first time in history conquered the Chimborazo volcano in Ecuador, which is 6,263 meters high. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.

It managed to overcome a difficult mountain route that not every professional can handle, and at the end of the journey it joyfully danced. The ascent took 16 hours. The robot moved independently on snowy sections with a slope of less than 30 degrees, equipped with a special warm jacket, mountaineering boots, and a safety system. On steeper and more dangerous slopes, the team of engineers carried it in their arms.

The team of engineers led by Pablo Beranga Bomare (founder of Geologic Dome) tested the endurance of the drives, stabilization algorithms, and the ability of electronics to work in extreme high-altitude conditions. In the future, such robots are planned to be used for monitoring nature reserves, protecting wildlife from poachers, and rescue operations.

Now Pemba and its developers plan to seriously upgrade and conquer the highest mountain in the world — Everest. However, the assault on Everest is postponed for now, as Nepal still lacks laws regulating robot expeditions.
