A wildfire in the Sierra Nevada foothills near Reno, Nevada, destroyed more than 30 homes and spread perilously close to neighborhoods. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Associated Press.

On Monday, officials said fire crews have started to contain the Hawk Fire, which began Saturday and grew rapidly, destroying more than 30 homes.

Video recorded Saturday captured the fast-growing fire. Evacuees are sheltering at the Reno-Sparks Convention Center, receiving donated clothing and other essentials.

One of the victims is Crystal Hallock, whose home was destroyed in northwest Reno. A photo of her property was taken by Brenda Means.

Firefighting efforts continue, and authorities are stepping up prevention measures.
