Kazakhstan will build 250 service stations for charging electric vehicles on its national highways. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
Under the project, 250 charging stations will be installed between 2026 and 2028. The stations will be located every 100 kilometers. This measure is aimed at promoting the use of electric vehicles and improving the environmental situation.
The charging stations will have a capacity ranging from 50 kW to 150 kW. Each station can charge two electric vehicles simultaneously. Charging time varies from 30 minutes to 2 hours, depending on the vehicle's battery.
The total cost of the project is 15 billion tenge. Funding comes from the national budget and private investments. The national company KazAvtoZhol will coordinate the construction work.
This initiative was adopted due to the growing number of electric vehicles in Kazakhstan. By the end of 2025, over 10,000 electric vehicles were registered in the country. In 2026, this figure is expected to reach 15,000.
Construction of the stations will begin in July 2026. The first phase will cover the Almaty-Nur-Sultan, Nur-Sultan-Karaganda, and Atyrau-Aktau routes. By the end of 2027, 150 stations will be commissioned, and by the end of 2028, the remaining 100 stations.
The development of electric vehicle infrastructure is part of the national project "Green Kazakhstan," aimed at reducing carbon emissions in the country.
