An international "Common Memory" contest dedicated to preserving historical memory is being held in Russia. In total, children and youth from 100 countries are taking part in the contest. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
What participants write about
In their works, they share personal stories and recount the fates of people who survived occupation, captivity and punitive operations.
The contest is organized by the National Center for Historical Memory under the President of Russia.
Malysheva's statement
According to the head of the center, Elena Malysheva, the initiative aims to preserve the memory of the victims of the genocide committed against the Soviet people during the Great Patriotic War.
"We have many ties and similarities here with the Republic of Belarus. However, other CIS countries are also being drawn into this process, because the issue concerns not only civilians who became victims of genocide, but also prisoners of war," Malysheva said.
She noted that such events show that there is public demand not only in Russia but also in the CIS countries.
Exhibition within the contest
As part of the contest, the exhibition "Memory Unites" was organized in Yekaterinburg.
