The Russian State Duma has proposed tightening migration policy towards Central Asian countries. The initiative was put forward by Sergei Mironov, leader of the 'A Just Russia' faction. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
According to Mironov, current migration regulation measures are insufficient, despite legislative changes already adopted after the terrorist attack at Crocus City Hall.
"We generally believe that a visa regime with Central Asian countries can be introduced. But at least let's do it on the Belarusian principle," the deputy stated.
He proposed using the Belarusian model for attracting foreign labor. According to him, an employer must first prove that local residents cannot perform the necessary work. After that, Mironov believes, only men should come to the country to perform specific jobs without the possibility of bringing their families.
The deputy also stated that, according to his data, only a portion of foreigners entering Russia come for employment.
"According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, 45% of arrivals intend to work. And why do the remaining 55% come? They bring families, children, who then go to schools without speaking Russian. Therefore, I consider the law on a mandatory Russian language exam for migrant children absolutely correct," Mironov said.
Furthermore, the faction leader advocated for stricter liability for foreign citizens who commit crimes.
"A migrant violated the law – must answer in full severity of the law, and the entire family, the entire clan must be immediately deported from the Russian Federation," he declared.
In addition, Mironov proposed expanding the list of economic sectors where foreign citizens would be prohibited from working. According to him, such restrictions are already in place in more than half of Russian regions, and similar measures should be adopted at the federal level.
During his speech, the deputy also stated that he is concerned about the large number of migrants in mixed martial arts clubs.
"Go into any MMA club in any region! There are no locals there, there are all migrants! What are they preparing for? Why? This is very alarming!" Mironov said.
