In Russia, patients with recurrent episodes of depression will be able to receive more procedures. The updated care standard now includes electroacupuncture, electrical brain stimulation, and laser blood irradiation. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
The Ministry of Health order has already been published but will take effect on October 3. It will replace the 2022 document and will apply to adults with recurrent depression — a condition in which the illness returns after periods of improvement.

The list of procedures has been expanded with acupuncture using extremely high-frequency currents, plasmapheresis, blood ultrafiltration, light therapy, and hypoxic exposure. This is a list of possible methods: which of them are needed for a particular person is decided by the doctor.
Examinations will also change
Examinations will also change. Patients will be tested for hepatitis, HIV, and syphilis, and will also be referred for an examination by a urologist. The new standard provides for dispensary observation by a psychiatrist.
Electroconvulsive therapy is also listed in the document. But this is not new: it, like transcranial magnetic stimulation, was in the previous standard.
