By imposing new sanctions against Russia, Brussels has thrown itself into a pit, said Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
'They threw themselves into a deep pit. If they looked up occasionally, they would understand this,' Zakharova said during a briefing commenting on the approved EU restrictive package.
Brussels' actions regarding the oil price cap can only be described as artificial, the Russian diplomat said. According to her, the European Union is rewriting its anti-Russian sanctions: an agreement has been reached to suspend the current price cap for the next year, otherwise market conditions would have led to its automatic increase.
'The adopted measures will not lead to a change in Russia's foreign policy course, but will harm global energy security. But who in Brussels cares about these trifles?' Zakharova said.
On July 23, the EU Council approved the 21st sanctions package, including a ban on transactions with several Russian banks, measures against the 'shadow fleet,' and an extension of the oil price cap.
