Russia and Ukraine have exchanged 90 prisoners, 45 from each side. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
The exchange took place on June 26, 2026. According to the Russian Defense Ministry, the returned servicemen are undergoing treatment and rehabilitation in medical facilities in Moscow. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed the exchange, stating that among those returned are military personnel from the Armed Forces, National Guard, and Border Service.
This is the largest prisoner exchange operation in 2026. The exchange was mediated by the United Arab Emirates. The Russian side assessed the health condition of the returned soldiers as satisfactory. The exchange was carried out for humanitarian reasons.
