In the first five months of 2026, trade turnover between Russia and Kazakhstan increased by more than 4%, reaching $28 billion in 2025. Russian President Vladimir Putin announced this at the 22nd Interregional Cooperation Forum of Russia and Kazakhstan. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.

Before the event, the Russian leader held a bilateral meeting with Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev. During the meeting, Putin emphasized that Moscow and Astana have strategic relations, as evidenced by the growing trade turnover.

"Last year it was almost $28 billion... Respectable, and in the first five months of this year, it increased by more than 4%. At least according to our statistics. Investments today create conditions and indicators for the future," Putin said.

The president also noted that Russian enterprises are involved in 70 investment projects in Kazakhstan worth a total of about $30 billion. "Russia is the largest investor in Kazakhstan's economy, and in various areas. Our relations are well diversified. These include metallurgy, mechanical engineering, energy, pharmaceuticals, and a number of other areas," Putin added.
