The number of prisoners released under criminal amnesty has been announced in Kazakhstan. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
According to Niyaz Ryspayev, First Deputy Chairman of the Penal Enforcement System Committee, about 10 thousand proposals for amnesty have been sent to courts to date. Of these, 4,400 proposals were sent by prisons, and more than 6,900 were prepared by probation services.
"Currently, courts have reviewed more than a thousand materials. As a result, 620 people were released from penal enforcement institutions," Ryspayev said at today's briefing.
All those released from prison are placed under administrative supervision. Based on applications submitted by probation services, 724 people registered with them were released from punishment. Additionally, the sentences of more than 730 convicts were reduced.
"Criminal amnesty is not applied automatically. Materials for each convict are reviewed individually. The final decision is made only by the court," Ryspayev added.
