The new gas thermal power plant in Kyzylorda has generated 500 million kWh of electricity. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
According to the ministry, the new combined-cycle unit with a capacity of 240 MW, commissioned in Kyzylorda, is increasing its contribution to the Unified Electric Power System of Kazakhstan.
"Since the station was commissioned, it has generated approximately 500 million kWh of electricity, contributing to reliable power supply to consumers. This volume is enough to provide electricity to 130 thousand apartments for a year or to cover the annual electricity needs of a city with a population of over 400 thousand people," the statement said.
The ministry reported that this year Kazakhstan plans to commission new generation sources with a total capacity of 2.6 GW.
"In particular, 4 gas power plants will be put into operation, and expansion of two power plants is also planned. In addition, 10 new renewable energy facilities will be launched," the ministry said.
The implementation of these projects will make it possible to solve the problem of electricity shortage in the country in the first quarter of 2027, and by 2029 to reach a stable surplus of electricity.
