In Kyzylorda region, a gauze tampon was left in a patient's body during a surgical operation. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
Due to the medical error, the patient suffered severe pain for a long time, suffered from a wound that did not heal properly, and was forced to undergo a second operation at his own expense. Two months later, he underwent a second operation at another medical facility, during which the previously left gauze tampon was removed from the area of the previous surgery.
In this regard, he went to court demanding compensation for material damages and moral harm from the medical institution. The court initially established that the plaintiff had undergone surgery to remove a cyst.
The presence of the foreign object was confirmed by the surgical protocol, medical documentation, video recording, as well as explanations from a representative of the medical facility where the repeated treatment was carried out. After examining the presented evidence, the court concluded that the defendant's guilt was proven and satisfied the claim.
The medical institution was ordered to pay the plaintiff more than 1.5 million tenge in compensation for moral harm and material damages.
