Six people have been sentenced in Kazakhstan for attempting to illegally export uranium to China. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
According to the court verdict, the suspects attempted to illegally transport uranium products from Kazakhstan to China. Their actions were classified under Article 209 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan (smuggling).
During the court hearing, it was established that the accused had conspired in advance to deliver uranium to China. They forged documents to export uranium from Kazakhstan.
The court sentenced each of the six individuals to imprisonment ranging from 5 to 7 years. Additionally, their property was confiscated.
This case highlights the importance of controlling uranium production and export in Kazakhstan. Security measures at uranium mining enterprises in the country have been strengthened.
