A new strain of tick-borne orthonairovirus has been identified in Beijing. The findings were published in the medical journal New England Journal of Medicine. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
New pathogenic orthonairovirus
The new pathogenic orthonairovirus is the Asian longhorned tick nairovirus (ALTNV). The RNA of the new virus was found in less than 2 percent of more than 47,000 ticks studied.
According to experts, the most common symptoms are high fever, weakness, flu-like manifestations, as well as gastrointestinal disorders.
Course of the disease
It was found that when infected with ALTNV alone, patients recovered, and the infection did not pose a direct threat to life. At the same time, scientists noted cases of simultaneous infection with ALTNV and another tick-borne virus, DBV. According to them, patients with two infections experienced a more severe course of the disease.
Situation in Kazakhstan
Earlier, Kursiv wrote that dengue fever was imported into Kazakhstan. Since the beginning of 2026, seven imported cases of dengue fever have been registered. The Committee for Sanitary and Epidemiological Control reminded tourists of recommendations for the prevention and non-admission of the importation of the fever into the country.
