At the Kazakhstan–China investment forum in Almaty, Akim of Akmola Region Marat Akhmetzhanov signed two agreements with Chinese investors. One concerns the construction of three wind power plants, the other the modernization of an elevator in Zhaksy District. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
According to the akimat, the total investment in the projects may reach $506 million.
Wind power plants
SUNGROW Renewable Development Co., Ltd. plans to build plants with capacities of 300, 100 and 50 MW. The largest will appear in Esil District, the other two in Zerendi District. The total capacity of the three facilities will be 450 MW, with investments of up to $500 million.
Land plots have already been registered, and the project documentation has passed state expert review. Construction work is planned to begin in October 2026 and be completed by 2028. After the plants are launched, more than 25 permanent jobs will be created.
“The new project will increase renewable energy capacity, attract private investment and create new jobs. The akimat will accompany the projects at all stages,” Akhmetzhanov said.
SUNGROW Renewable Development is part of the Chinese group Sungrow Power Supply, whose shares are traded on the Shenzhen Stock Exchange. According to the akim, in 2023, in cooperation with SUNGROW, renewable energy projects with a total capacity of 221 MW were implemented in Arshaly District. Investments exceeded 100 billion tenge.
The company also signed an agreement to build a 200 MW wind plant in Khromtau District of Aktobe Region. In 2025, the local akimat valued this project at $171 million and planned to launch the plant in 2027.
Elevator modernization
The second project concerns an elevator in the village of Kazakhskoye in Zhaksy District. Chinese East Hope Group acquired the existing facility and is reconstructing it. The work is about 80% complete, with launch planned for October 2026.
After modernization, the enterprise will be able to receive, store and process wheat, as well as produce up to 100,000 tons of feed flour per year. $6 million will be invested in the project. After reaching full capacity, 30 permanent jobs will be created here.
Earlier, Kursiv reported that French Total began building a giant 1 GW Mirny wind farm in Kazakhstan with an integrated energy storage system. The total investment is planned to amount to $1.1 billion.
