Kyrgyzstan plans to allocate 1.2 billion som (6.06 billion tenge) for its presidential election. Voting is scheduled for January 27, 2027. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
How election spending is distributed
According to the republic's Central Election Commission, of the total sum, 646.56 million som is earmarked for 2026, and another 553.44 million som for 2027. The estimate already includes 240 million som in case of a repeat vote. A further 53.2 million som is provided for organizing voting by Kyrgyz citizens abroad.
Polling stations and commission members
In total, work is planned at 2,653 polling stations. Of these, 100 will open outside Kyrgyzstan, and another 40 additional stations are intended for remote voting.
A total of 26,819 people will work in precinct election commissions. Remuneration for commission members during the preparation and conduct of the election will range from 3,000 to 8,000 som per month. Equipment operators and technical support specialists will also be involved in the work.
What the funds will be used for
The funds will go, among other things, to equipping polling stations, communications, printing information materials, training participants in the electoral process, delivering equipment and documents to the regions, and organizing voting abroad.
"The estimate was formed taking into account the required number of personnel, as well as the organizational, informational, technical and logistical support necessary for preparing and conducting the election, organizing the activities of election commissions and the work of polling stations," the statement says.
When the election will be held
Kyrgyzstan's presidential election is scheduled for January 27, 2027. The corresponding decree was signed by Sadyr Japarov on September 25.
The country's president is elected for a five-year term.
Similar spending in Kazakhstan
For the 2022 snap presidential election in Kazakhstan, 20.5 billion tenge was allocated from the government reserve. The funds were allocated from the government reserve because the snap election (held on November 20, 2022) had not been planned in the main budget in advance.
For the 2024 referendum on the construction of a nuclear power plant in Kazakhstan, 15.5 billion tenge was allocated from the budget, of which about 14.8 billion tenge was actually spent.
Organizing and holding the election of deputies of the Kurultai of the Republic of Kazakhstan, which took place on August 23 this year, cost 34.3 billion tenge.
