President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev opened the first session of the Kurultai. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.

The session is attended by 145 deputies elected from each party and government members.

In his speech, Tokayev first focused on the historical mission of the Kurultai. "The Kurultai has broadly discussed issues of national importance and adopted common decisions. It is clear that this institution will have a special role in the new stage. Because the Kurultai fundamentally modernizes the power system and gives a fresh impetus to the work of the entire state apparatus," Tokayev said.

It should be noted that the Kurultai deputies gathered for the first session not in their own building, but in the joint meeting hall of the government of the former parliament. Currently, the hall's facade reads: "Meeting Hall of the Kurultai of the Republic of Kazakhstan."
