What guarantees the opposition received at the Kurultai

The working regulations of the Kurultai have approved guarantees for the parliamentary opposition. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.

According to deputy Snezhana Imasheva, the guarantees for the parliamentary opposition are one of the important parts of the new regulations.

This document defines the status of the majority and the opposition in the Kurultai. The political party with the largest number of deputy mandates is recognized as the majority.

Political parties represented in the Kurultai that are not part of the majority may form a parliamentary opposition.

"The regulations do not limit themselves to merely declaratively enshrining this status; they also provide for concrete procedural guarantees. The opposition has the right to initiate at least one hearing during a session. In addition, during a session it has the right to determine the agenda of the Government Hour at least twice," Imasheva said at today's meeting of the Kurultai.

Representatives of the opposition may also head standing committees.

It is worth noting that today the deputies of the Kurultai approved the working regulations. Laws are adopted in three readings.
