Chairman of the Adilet party, Aibek Dadebay, has been elected Chairman of the Kurultai. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.

His candidacy was proposed today by the president at the opening of the first session of the Kurultai. Then a secret vote was held on the speaker's candidacy. For this purpose, special booths and boxes were installed in the lobby of the Kurultai building. Each deputy received a special ballot and made their choice in the booth.

Dadebay's candidacy was supported by 144 deputies.

Success of the Adilet Party

It is worth noting that the Adilet party won the largest number of mandates in the elections. 110 members of the political organization became deputies of the Kurultai.

Majority and Opposition in the Kurultai

The constitutional law "On the Kurultai and the Status of Deputies" clearly defines the concepts of majority and opposition in the unicameral Parliament. The majority in the Kurultai is the political party that received the largest number of deputy mandates. A political party or political parties that are not part of the majority in the Kurultai and usually have a different position on socio-economic and socio-political issues are considered opposition.

"The opposition in the Kurultai may support the majority party on certain issues. The faction of a political party indicates which opposition in the Kurultai it belongs to during registration," the law says.
