Kurultai Speaker Aibek Dadebay and Chairman of the Jogorku Kenesh of Kyrgyzstan Marlen Mamataliev discussed the development of interparliamentary cooperation at a meeting in Bishkek on October 19. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
The talks were held on the sidelines of the TurkPA session, the Kurultai press service reported.
Dadebay congratulated his colleague on the 35th anniversary of Kyrgyzstan's independence and thanked him for the reception. He called strengthening ties with the Kyrgyz parliament a priority for the Kurultai — through the Council for Interparliamentary Cooperation, the friendship group and relevant committees.
According to the speaker, the development of relations between the two countries is reflected in the Treaty on Deepening and Expanding Allied Relations between Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan.
"Our current goal is legislative support for the agreements of our leaders," Dadebay noted, speaking about the interaction between Presidents Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and Sadyr Japarov.
The Kurultai speaker also spoke about political and constitutional reforms in Kazakhstan. According to the press service, in accordance with the new Constitution, a unicameral Kurultai, the institution of vice-president and a consultative body — the Kazakhstan People's Council (Qazaqstan Halqy Kenesi) — have been created in the country.
Mamataliev noted the mutual understanding and interaction of the heads of the two states both in bilateral format and on multilateral platforms. He congratulated Kazakhstanis on the reforms and wished the Kurultai deputies fruitful work.
The meeting also discussed the exchange of experience in lawmaking and joint work in interparliamentary organizations and international associations. Special attention was paid to cooperation in music, theater, cinema and sports.
Earlier, Kursiv wrote that on August 31 Tokayev congratulated Japarov on the 35th anniversary of Kyrgyzstan's independence. The President of Kazakhstan noted the centuries-old traditions of good neighborliness and expressed confidence in further strengthening the strategic partnership and alliance between the two countries.
