President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev signed a decree on the appointment of elections of the Kurultai of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Akorda reported. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
"Elections of deputies of the Kurultai of the Republic of Kazakhstan shall be scheduled for August 23, 2026," the decree states.
Recall that the new Constitution came into force today. In accordance with it, the bicameral parliament ceased its work from July 1. After the opening of the first session of the Kurultai in September, a vice-president will be appointed within two months. The Kurultai deputies must give their consent.
