Qurultay adopted a law on ratification of the Convention on Cybercrime. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
The Council of Europe approved this convention in 2001. This document is considered the first international treaty aimed at combating crimes in the field of information technology.
In 2023, Kazakhstan received a proposal to join this convention. The convention provides mechanisms for international legal assistance.
They include: - extradition; - exchange of information; - conducting joint investigative actions; - countering the misuse of computer systems, networks and data; - assistance in detecting and investigating such criminal actions; - prosecution for computer crimes at both domestic and international levels; - development of agreements on prompt and reliable international cooperation.
"The law is aimed at creating a legal basis for increasing the effectiveness of work in the field of combating cybercrime, prompt exchange of electronic evidence and information with foreign states, as well as improving national legislation and law enforcement practice in accordance with international standards," say the deputies.
