Kazakhstan Temir Zholy (KTZ) plans to double the fine for grazing livestock near railways. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
Until 2025, livestock owners were given a warning. Now a fine of 5 MCI, or 21,625 tenge, is imposed immediately. In case of a repeat, a fine of 10 MCI or 43,250 tenge is provided.
«Currently, KTZ plans to double the fine: up to 10 MCI for a first violation, and up to 20 MCI for a repeat within a year. KTZ asks livestock owners to strictly follow grazing rules and not leave livestock unattended near railways,» the national carrier stated.
In addition, KTZ is actively conducting outreach among the population. «KTZ, together with akimats and transport police, is conducting active outreach with livestock owners. Since the beginning of the year, about 1,300 explanatory meetings have been held, attended by approximately 34,000 people. More than 52,000 livestock owners have been familiarized with the rules of grazing and driving animals across railways. 378 livestock owners have been held administratively liable,» the company reported.
According to KTZ, the ongoing preventive work is yielding results. In the nine months of 2026, 584 cases of trains hitting livestock were recorded. In the same period of 2025, there were 648 such cases.
