In September 2026, Kazakhstan Temir Zholy continued its large-scale renewal of its locomotive fleet, adding 18 new locomotives. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
The Astana depot received 3 KZ8A electric locomotives and 5 shunting diesel locomotives manufactured by CRRC. The Esil depot was sent 6 mainline diesel locomotives assembled at the domestic enterprise Lokomotiv Qurastyru Zauyty (LQZ).
The Burabay resort depot received 3 CRRC shunting diesel locomotives, while the Karaganda depot received another 1 CRRC shunting diesel locomotive.
According to the company, the arrival of modern traction equipment will significantly increase the reliability of the locomotive fleet, guarantee the stability of the transportation process, and substantially improve the working conditions of locomotive crews.
Since the beginning of the year, KTZ has received a total of 187 locomotives from manufacturers Wabtec, CRRC, and Alstom.
