The Ministry of Justice of Kazakhstan showed representatives of domestic TV channels and radio stations the Unified Digital Platform in the field of collective rights management (UDP). The ministry demonstrated the system's main capabilities during a roundtable dedicated to copyright and related rights. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
What was discussed at the roundtable
During the meeting, participants examined the key provisions of Kazakhstani legislation and practical issues of their application. Following the roundtable, the parties exchanged views on how to implement the existing norms and in which direction to further develop legal regulation in this area.
Key organizations for copyright protection
One of the main organizations for the protection of copyright is WIPO, or the World Intellectual Property Organization, which pursues a policy of copyright compliance as a UN subdivision.
Within its mandate, this body calls on various countries to join international conventions on the protection of intellectual property and, in particular, in the field of copyright. Kazakhstan has joined all such conventions, which means that our law "On Copyright and Related Rights" complies with international principles and norms of copyright.
Previously proposed initiative
Earlier in Kazakhstan, it was proposed to create a Unified Digital Platform to protect the rights of performers. It was promised that every local musician would have a personal account where they could track online where and how many times their songs were played.
