Two men were detained in Kostanay while receiving a large sum of money. They had threatened the victim and extorted money. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
According to the Kostanay regional police department, two previously convicted men were caught while receiving 4.4 million tenge. According to investigation data, since September they had threatened the victim with force and violence, demanding 17 million tenge.
On October 28, the men were detained during an operation conducted by officers of the Department for Combating Extremism of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Kazakhstan together with the Organized Crime Control Department of the Kostanay regional police and the special unit "Burkut".
During the search, 4.4 million tenge, a Kia Sportage vehicle and mobile phones were seized, the regional police department reported.
Both suspects were placed in a pre-trial detention center. According to police, their actions are classified as extortion committed by a group of persons by prior conspiracy. The pre-trial investigation is ongoing. All circumstances of the incident are being established.
