A 47-year-old man in Kostanay has been sentenced to 12 years in prison for the murder of his ex-wife. The verdict was announced on August 12 by the Specialized Interdistrict Criminal Court of Kostanay region. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.

According to the court, the man previously worked in the financial police, and at the time of the crime held the position of security commissioner of the branch of JSC "Government for Citizens".

The investigation established that jealousy was the motive for the murder. The man arrived at his ex-wife's house with a loaded carbine in his car. Since he could not enter the apartment himself, he waited for their 9-year-old daughter at the entrance, bought her sweets, and asked her to open the code lock.

After entering the apartment, he shot his ex-wife. Their daughter remained behind the door at that time. After the incident, the father took the child to relatives, then voluntarily surrendered to the police.

"Find guilty under Part 1 of Article 99 of the Criminal Code and impose a sentence of 12 years in prison. Based on paragraph 2 of Part 5 of Article 46 of the Criminal Code, the sentence is to be served in a medium-security facility," Judge Nurman Aigelov announced the verdict.

At the same time, the man was acquitted on episodes related to beatings and threats. The court did not find elements of a criminal offense in his actions.

The judge explained that the events of March 15, 2026, which occurred before the murder, were registered by the police and considered by the court within administrative proceedings.

"No criminal offense was seen in these actions. During her lifetime, the deceased did not file a complaint about beatings or threats with a knife," Aigelov explained.

Lawyer for the injured party Snezhana Zhukova insisted on a stricter qualification of the defendant's actions, including pointing to the circumstances of the crime and particular cruelty.

According to the lawyer, the psychologist's conclusion confirmed the severe moral harm caused to the child. Zhukova believes that the man actually used his daughter to gain access to his ex-wife's apartment.

"On the way, he bought a pastry to win over his daughter, while already carrying a weapon in the car. The carbine was loaded with 14 rounds, he waited for the child to open the code lock, since he could no longer enter the apartment with his fingerprint," the lawyer said.

Zhukova also raised the issue of police actions before the murder. According to her, the woman had previously complained about threats and beatings, after which the court banned her ex-husband from approaching her.

The lawyer claims that after reports of threats, the man's weapon should have been confiscated, but this was not done; instead, he was offered to surrender it voluntarily.

"Before handing over the weapon, he just drove up and shot his ex-wife. The prosecutor asked to attach materials to the case where disciplinary action was taken against police officers, and a material was allocated against the district inspector for concealing a criminal offense. I hope this case will be investigated," Zhukova stated.

Relatives of the deceased also believe that the woman could have been protected, as she had previously sought help. Currently, the 9-year-old daughter is under the care of her grandmother and undergoing psychological rehabilitation.

Earlier, Kursiv reported that in the case of the murder of Nuray Serikbay, the main part of the trial had ended and debates had begun. Prosecutor Madiyar Abilkasymov asked to sentence 28-year-old Sherkhan Aymakhanov to life imprisonment, considering his guilt proven on charges of murder with particular cruelty, coercion into marriage, and stalking. According to the investigation, the girl was inflicted 35 knife wounds, and the examination concluded that the accused controlled his actions at the time of the crime.
