A 17-year-old local resident has been detained in Kostanay on suspicion of murdering an 86-year-old man. He was placed in a temporary detention center, according to the Kostanay region police department. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
The pensioner's body with signs of violent death was found in the courtyard of one of the houses on Kubeev Street. According to preliminary data, the elderly man was sitting on a bench when he was attacked with a knife.
After the incident, rumors spread on social media about other victims and the possible appearance of a maniac in the city. Police denied information about a second victim.
The suspect was identified and detained during operational search activities.
"He turned out to be a minor local resident. The suspect has been placed in a temporary detention center," police said.
A criminal case has been opened into the murder. The investigation is ongoing, and police are establishing all the circumstances of the incident. The motives for the alleged crime have not yet been reported.
