Two previously convicted men were detained in Kostanay while receiving 4.4 million tenge. According to the investigation, since September they had been extorting 17 million tenge from the victim, threatening physical violence. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
Operation
The operation was conducted on October 28 by officers of the Ministry of Internal Affairs' counter-extremism units and the Kostanay region police department, with the support of the special unit "Orlan".
Seized items
During the detention, 4.4 million tenge, a Kia Sportage vehicle, and mobile phones were seized.
Charges
The suspects' actions were qualified as extortion committed by a group of persons by prior conspiracy. Both were placed in a temporary detention facility.
"The preliminary investigation is ongoing. All details of the incident are being clarified," the statement said.
Earlier, "Kursiv" reported that a man in Almaty was arrested for 15 days for calling on truck drivers to protest.
