A man in the Mendykara district of the Kostanay region has been convicted of killing his neighbor and committing theft. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.

The case was heard in a specialized inter-district court for criminal cases. The defendant was charged with illegal entry into a home, secret theft of another's property, and murder. At his request, the case was heard with a jury.

According to the court, on April 5 of last year, the defendant, while intoxicated, illegally entered the victim's home and stole a block of cigarettes and a wristwatch. On the night of April 10 to 11, in the village of Kyzyl Presnya, while drinking alcohol, he got into a quarrel with a fellow villager. During the quarrel, the defendant struck the victim several times with a kitchen knife. The man died at the scene from his injuries.

The defendant partially admitted his guilt but denied the murder. However, the court noted that his guilt was fully proven. Based on the jury's verdict, the court sentenced him to 9 years in prison. He will serve his sentence in a medium-security facility. The verdict has not yet entered into legal force.
