On the night of July 30-31, 2026, night sky enthusiasts will witness the main meteor event of July — a double meteor shower: the Southern Delta Aquariids and Alpha Capricornids will peak simultaneously, allowing observers to see medium-speed meteors and bright slow fireballs together. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
According to Starwalk, the Moon will be bright, but the simultaneous peak of two meteor showers will still be noticeable.
Two fainter streams — the July Gamma Draconids and Piscis Austrinids — will also peak around the same time.
To increase your chances of seeing as many 'shooting stars' as possible, find a dark location with an open horizon. In the Northern Hemisphere, the radiant of the Delta Aquariids is low in the south, so it is best to look southward. In the Southern Hemisphere, the radiant rises much higher and often passes almost overhead, so simply looking up will suffice.
Delta Aquariid meteors can appear in any part of the sky, so it is important to get comfortable, allow your eyes 20–30 minutes to adapt to the darkness, and try to cover as large an area of the sky as possible.
No special equipment is needed — just clear skies and a little patience.
Earlier, Kursiv wrote about the first summer full moon, or the 'Strawberry Moon'.
