Unfavorable meteorological conditions are expected in Almaty and eight other cities of Kazakhstan on October 14. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.

According to Kazhydromet, NMU are forecast in Aktobe, Almaty, Balkhash, Zhezkazgan and Kokshetau, and at night — in Astana, Karaganda, Kostanay and Temirtau.

What NMU means

As specialists explain, unfavorable meteorological conditions arise from a combination of calm, weak wind, fog and temperature inversion. As a result, pollutants accumulate in the surface layer of the atmosphere, which can lead to a deterioration in air quality.

Forecasters warn that during such periods the risk of negative health effects increases, especially for people with chronic diseases.

What affects the level of air pollution

The level of air pollution is affected by wind speed, precipitation, humidity and air temperature.

Recommendations for residents

Residents are advised to reduce time spent outdoors, especially near roads and other sources of pollution. Children and pregnant women are advised to avoid long walks.

People with respiratory and cardiovascular diseases, as well as those with allergies, are advised to carry necessary medications. Specialists recommend limiting physical activity outdoors and, if possible, moving exercise indoors.

Earlier, Kursiv wrote that storm warnings were announced in 16 regions of Kazakhstan for October 14.
