Unfavourable meteorological conditions are expected in Almaty and seven other cities of Kazakhstan on September 19. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.

According to Kazhydromet, NMU are forecast in Karaganda, Balkhash, Temirtau, Uralsk, Atyrau, Aktobe and Almaty, and at night — in Astana.

What NMU means

As specialists explain, unfavourable weather conditions arise from a combination of calm, weak wind, fog and temperature inversion. As a result, pollutants accumulate in the surface layer of the atmosphere, which can lead to a deterioration in air quality.

Forecasters warn that during such periods the risk of negative health effects increases, especially for people with chronic diseases.

What affects pollution levels

Air pollution levels are affected by wind speed, precipitation, humidity and air temperature.

Recommendations for residents

Residents are advised to reduce time spent outdoors, especially near roads and other sources of pollution. Children and pregnant women are advised to avoid long walks.

People with respiratory and cardiovascular diseases, as well as those with allergies, are advised to carry necessary medications. Specialists recommend limiting physical activity outdoors and, where possible, moving classes indoors.
