As of August 2026, Kazakhstan's gold and foreign exchange reserves reached $70.6 billion. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
Over the year, their volume grew by almost 30%, that is, by $16.3 billion, according to Finprom.kz. Over the past three years, the volume of reserves has more than doubled, with an average annual growth rate of about 28%.
This is one of the most significant indicators in recent years.
Moreover, in recent years the structure of Kazakhstan's gold and foreign exchange reserves has changed significantly: the share of gold in reserves is growing, while the share of assets in freely convertible currency is declining.
These include securities, foreign currency deposits and other financial instruments, the portal wrote.
By the end of August, the share of gold in the gold and foreign exchange reserves exceeded 79% for the first time in the country's history, reaching a record level.
In monetary terms, this amounted to about $55.8 billion.
In physical terms, the gold reserve approached 12.1 million troy ounces, that is, about 377 tonnes.
According to the World Gold Council, from the beginning of 2026 through July, the National Bank of Kazakhstan purchased 29 tonnes of gold and entered the top five largest buyers in the world.
