Kazakhstan's men's 3x3 basketball team lost to Japan 17:18 in the Asian Games play-in. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.

In the group stage, the Kazakh basketball players beat Sri Lanka but lost to Mongolia and the Philippines. They advanced to the play-in against Japan.

After losing the opening 1:5, the Kazakhs almost caught up with their opponents – 4:5, 5:6. But the hosts pulled away again – 11:6. The guests' second chase was successful – 14:14 with 1 minute 45 seconds left.

The ending was fiery. 14:15, 15:15, 15:16, 17:16, 17:17. At 17:18, Mansur Seilkhanov missed twice from beyond the arc. The painful defeat kept the Kazakhs out of the playoffs. In the quarterfinals, Japan will play Iran.

An hour earlier, Kazakhstan's women's 3x3 team also finished its performance at the Asian Games.

According to the regulations, this discipline involves basketball players no older than 23 years. The tournament is taking place at the Kindze-Futo station square in Nagoya.

3x3 basketball is present at the Asian Games for the third time. At the 2018 Games in Jakarta, China, South Korea and Iran took the podium. Kazakhstan lost in the quarterfinals to the future vice-champions – 13:17.

At the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou, the Chinese Taipei team won gold. Qatar won silver, Mongolia bronze. The Kazakhstan team lost in the play-in to the Philippines 14:15.

The XX Summer Asian Games officially opened on September 19 and will end on October 4. Athletes from 45 countries are competing for 460 sets of medals. Kazakhstan's team at the 2026 Asian Games includes 558 athletes in 35 sports.

On the first day of the Games, Kazakhstan won four gold medals. The champions of the Games were cyclists Rinata Sultanova and Alexey Lutsenko, as well as karatekas Zholaman Bigabyl and Sofia Berultseva. The fifth gold was added to the team's tally by MMA fighter Yerkingali Burkutalin. The sixth by his teammate in mixed martial arts Kadyrbek Shynbaev. The day before, Lutsenko became a two-time champion of the 2026 Asian Games. The eighth gold medal was won today by rowers Vladislav Yakovlev and Ivan Chernukhin in the men's coxless pairs competition.

After four days of the Games, Kazakhstan was in fourth place in the unofficial medal standings.
