Gold bars worth a total of 182.3 million tenge were nearly smuggled out of Kazakhstan to China. To do this, a Kyrgyz citizen hid six bars under shoe insoles. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
How the scheme worked
According to the Main Transport Prosecutor's Office, the woman purchased the gold in Kyrgyzstan and brought it into Kazakhstan through the "Kordai Auto" checkpoint. She then planned to illegally move the bars to China.
To conceal the gold from customs and border control, the woman placed three bars under each shoe insole. However, during inspection in the area of the "Khorgos" International Center for Cross-Border Cooperation, they were discovered and seized.
Characteristics of the bars
The total mass of the bars was 2.8 kg, and the gold content in them exceeded 99%.
"At the request of the Main Transport Prosecutor's Office, the court applied pre-trial confiscation of six gold bars. The gold was turned into state revenue. The ruling has entered into legal force," the agency concluded.
