Kazakhstan intends to ban the import of wheat for six months, except for transit to other countries. The measure is aimed at supporting domestic grain producers. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
The Ministry of Agriculture published a draft order on the "Open NPA" website, proposing a six-month ban on wheat imports into Kazakhstan from third countries and EAEU states by road, water, and rail transport.
Exceptions are provided only for wheat transit to other countries, as well as for the needs of poultry and flour milling enterprises, licensed elevators, and the state "Food Contract Corporation." However, wheat imported even for these organizations must not be sold on the domestic market.
This measure is aimed at supporting domestic producers and ensuring stable product sales. The draft is under public discussion until June 21, 2026.
Earlier, it was reported that Kazakhstan plans to introduce a temporary ban on tomato imports from countries other than the EAEU. Previously, Kazakh farmers complained that too "cheap" tomatoes were being imported from China.
