In Kazakhstan, the most popular dog names are Aktos, Sharik, and Rex, while among cats, Murka, Musya, and Barsik lead. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
The Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources provided these figures, referencing the unified information system for pet registration, TAÑBA.
Number of animals in TAÑBA
Currently, about 400,000 pets are registered in the system. Most of them are dogs and cats: 291,761 dogs and 107,414 cats.
Most popular dog names
Among dogs, the most common name is Aktos, borne by 8,863 pets. In second place is Sharik with 6,027 dogs, and third is Rex with 5,409. They are followed by Tuzik (4,243), Laika (4,137), Arlan (3,012), Moinaq (2,382), Alapar (2,056), Barsik (2,004), and Barbos (1,963).
Most popular cat names
For cats, the name Murka leads, with 2,236 animals registered under it. Next are Musya (1,529), Barsik (1,491), Murzik (842), Sonya (833), Ryzhik (721), Simba (698), Alisa (657), and Vasya and Kuzya with 604 each.
Rare animals and unusual names
TAÑBA records not only cats and dogs. The registry also includes eight rabbits, four ferrets, and one each of a turtle, a fancy rat, a miniature pig, a hamster, and a capybara.
Rare pets often have unusual names. For instance, the system lists a turtle named Aisha, a hamster named Tompi, a miniature pig named Biblik, a fancy rat named Finik, and a capybara named Boris. Among rabbits, names like Cambridge, Oxford, Rafinad, and Snejinka are registered, while ferrets are named Pirozhok, Umka, Kipish, and Zhizha.
Electronic passport
The system also provides categories for other types of pets, including guinea pigs, chinchillas, hares, monkeys, and hedgehogs. So far, no animals of these species are in the database.
When registering a pet in TAÑBA, an electronic passport is generated. It includes the pet's name, breed, sex, date of birth, identification number, and owner information. The digital profile also stores data on vaccination, sterilization, and other veterinary procedures.
The Ministry of Ecology noted that unified digital registration allows faster identification of an animal and access to up-to-date information about its condition and veterinary procedures.
Earlier, Kursiv reported that a digital passport for pets is available in eGov Mobile, containing details about the pet and its vaccinations. The document can be accessed in the "Digital Documents" section, so pet owners do not need to carry a paper passport.
