Starting July 19, 2026, Kazakhstanis will be able to make interbank payments via QR code. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
Currently, all banks serving the public through mobile applications are connected to this system. According to the legislation, the Interbank Mobile Payment System (IMPS) will be officially launched nationwide on July 19, 2026.
From that day, clients of participating banks can instantly transfer money to clients of other banks by phone number, and also pay for goods and services via QR code, regardless of which bank the buyer and seller are clients of.
Transfers and payments will be executed around the clock in real time. IMPS allows entrepreneurs to accept non-cash payments from clients of all banks connected to the system using a single QR code.
No new equipment installation is required; the service will be provided using existing terminals. For updating mobile applications, clients should contact their servicing bank.
The National Digital Financial Infrastructure includes, in addition to the National Payment System, a biometric identification platform, a digital tenge platform, an open banking platform, and the National Anti-Fraud Center.
It is worth noting that today the National Payment System processes about 6.3 trillion tenge daily. Over 340 billion digital tenge have been issued into circulation. The biometric identification service receives about 3.5 million requests per month.
Since its launch, the Anti-Fraud Center has identified over 165,000 fraudulent incidents and other illegal operations. Among them are crimes related to financial pyramids and illegal gambling businesses.
