Kazakhstanis have started consuming more meat, dairy products and eggs. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
According to the Bureau of National Statistics, on average, one resident accounted for 20.7 kg of meat and meat products per quarter. In the same period last year, this figure was 20.6 kg.
Consumption of milk and dairy products increased from 57.2 liters to 58.1 liters, eggs from 52 pieces to 54 pieces, vegetables from 18.3 kg to 18.7 kg, potatoes from 11.3 kg to 11.4 kg. Also, consumption of fish and seafood increased from 3.5 kg to 3.6 kg.
However, consumption of cereals and grain products, fruits, berries and nuts, sugar, jam and honey decreased. Consumption of oils and fats remained unchanged.
In the three months of 2026, the consumption volume of one resident of Kazakhstan averaged: 11.4 kg of potatoes; 6 kg of wheat bread made from first-grade flour; 6 kg of beef; 4.8 kg of apples; 4.6 kg of granulated sugar; 4.2 kg of rice; 3.1 liters of kefir; 2.6 kg of pasta; 2.4 liters of raw milk; 2.1 kg of fresh or chilled fish; 54 eggs; 0.3 kg of black tea.
In Q1 2026, per capita vegetable consumption averaged 18.7 kg, up 2.2% from last year. Urban residents' vegetable consumption was 19.3 kg per person, while in rural areas it was 17.6 kg.
"The highest vegetable consumption was recorded in Almaty city – 23.2 kg per capita. It is followed by Zhetysu region – 22.8 kg and Turkistan region – 21.4 kg. The lowest rates were in East Kazakhstan region – 16.5 kg, as well as in Abai and Almaty regions – 16 kg each," say statistics experts.
The highest level of meat and meat product consumption was recorded in East Kazakhstan, Zhetysu, Akmola and Karaganda regions. The lowest rate was observed in Turkistan region.
