According to the results of the first half of 2026, the volume of deposits of individuals in second-tier banks exceeded 30 trillion tenge for the first time. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.

Over the year, this amount increased by 18.5%, or 4.7 trillion tenge, Ranking.kz reported. Depositors still mostly choose savings deposits.

Advantages of savings deposits

Their main advantage over other types of deposits is high profitability. "Unlike deposits where money can be freely withdrawn at any time, savings deposits have stricter conditions for early withdrawal of funds. Therefore, banks offer higher interest rates on such deposits," the portal wrote.

Another important advantage of savings deposits is the higher amount of guarantee provided by the Kazakhstan Deposit Insurance Fund (KDIF). The maximum guarantee amount per depositor in one bank for savings deposits in tenge is 20 million tenge. This is the highest level of protection among deposit products.

For comparison, for other deposits the maximum guarantee amount is lower: for cards, accounts and deposits not related to savings in tenge – up to 10 million tenge, and for deposits in foreign currency – up to 5 million tenge.

Expert opinion

"In savings deposits, the main priority is given to profitability. Restrictions on partial withdrawal of funds allow banks to plan their resource base more efficiently, and depositors to receive higher interest rates. Therefore, such a product is convenient for placing funds that will not be needed during the established period," experts say.

Those who open a savings deposit can calculate the income in advance. The depositor knows in advance the term of placement of funds, the interest rate and the main conditions of the product. If the contract provides for capitalization of interest, income is accrued not only on the initial deposit amount, but also on previously accrued interest.

Other types of deposits

There are other types of deposits on the market, in particular, term and demand deposits. Their main difference is in the availability of funds and profitability. Demand deposits usually allow the depositor to use money more freely, but the rates on them are often lower. Term deposits are in between: they allow you to place funds for a certain period and maintain relatively flexible conditions.
