The credit burden of Kazakhstanis is growing. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.

At a briefing in the government, Vice Minister of National Economy Azamat Amrin stated that reducing the debt burden and improving the financial activity of the population are priority areas of the government's work.

"I want to focus specifically on the issue of the population's debt burden and the growth of consumer loans. As of April 1, 2026, bank sector loans reached 25 trillion tenge. Consumer loans account for more than two-thirds of this amount, exceeding 10 trillion tenge. This indicator is growing every year," said the vice minister.

He noted that according to the analytical center of the First Credit Bureau, as of January 1, 2026, the remaining debt of the population to all organizations providing information to the bureau amounted to 27.5 trillion tenge.

"This amount does not include loans issued to individual entrepreneurs, takes into account interest accrued for the next payment, and does not include written-off debts. As of that date, the consumer loan portfolio consisted of 39.4 million loans for 8.95 million borrowers. On average, there were 4.4 loans per borrower," said Amrin.
