Cambodians who studied in Kazakhstan now head provinces and work in their country's ministries. This was stated by Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet during expanded talks with President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, according to Akorda. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
According to Hun Manet, more than 120 Cambodian students received education in Kazakhstan. Many of them subsequently took high government positions.
"Many of them today hold responsible positions in government bodies, including governors of several provinces, state secretaries and staff of various ministries. Thus, our countries are linked by a shared history and strong human contacts," the prime minister said.
This year marks 32 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations between Kazakhstan and Cambodia. Tokayev noted that Hun Manet's first visit to the country will allow the sides to move to practical implementation of joint plans. Following the talks, the parties intend to adopt a joint statement and sign a number of documents.
Hun Manet arrived in Kazakhstan on an official visit. On October 17, Tokayev met him at Akorda, where a ceremony with an honor guard and the playing of the two countries' anthems took place.
At one-on-one talks, the president proposed discussing the opening of direct flights and intensifying humanitarian exchanges. Hun Manet also stated that Cambodian ministries are interested in Kazakhstan's e-government experience.
