The burial site of a Kazakhstani soldier who died in the Great Patriotic War was found after 80 years. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
A Kazakhstani search team discovered the soldier's remains during excavations in the Novgorod region of Russia. A medallion from 1941 was found next to them. By studying the inscriptions inside the medallion, the soldier's name was identified.
He turned out to be a native of the Kyzylorda region, Private Serikbay Abdirov. He went to the front in 1941 and went missing the same year. For 80 years, his relatives knew nothing about his fate.
Currently, the soldier's remains have been delivered to Kazakhstan and buried with honors in his homeland. The burial ceremony was attended by local residents, veterans, and relatives.
This event once again reminds of the importance of remembering those who died in the war. Search efforts continue.
