A group of tourists from Kazakhstan, Russia and Kyrgyzstan has been stranded in the Chatkal Valley of Kyrgyzstan for three days after rising water destroyed bridges near Lake Kara-Tokoy. Among those awaiting evacuation are Kazakh citizens and children. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing 24.kg.
According to a tourist named Vildan, his group consists of 10 people, including three children. Nearby, there is another tourist group from Bishkek of about 30 people.
"We have been here for three days. They told us to wait until the bridges are restored. Today is Sunday, no work is being done. Fortunately, we have cars and tents, a place to spend the night. Everyone feels fine, there is no panic," Vildan said.
Due to the destroyed crossings, the tourists are cut off between the tributaries of the Chatkal River. It is impossible to cross the river on their own — the current is too strong.
According to 24.kg, employees of the Kyrgyz Ministry of Emergency Situations are delivering food to the people by throwing it across the river. Local residents and shepherds are also providing assistance.
"A huge thank you to everyone who helps. Shepherds, residents of nearby villages, emergency workers — everyone supports us, brings food, helps as much as they can. We are very grateful to each one," Vildan added.
The tourists are provided with tents, vehicles and a supply of necessary items. They are waiting for the bridges to be restored to leave the Chatkal Valley.
