The gold-medal match did not start well for the Kazakh team. Trailing heavily after four bouts (10:19), they summoned their will to win and, through incredible effort, managed to level the score and move ahead – 43:42. In the end, the two-time Asian Games champions (1994, 2002) became three-time champions!

Sabre team stopped one step from the podium

One step from the podium, Kazakhstan's women's sabre team stopped. The Kazakhstan team of Karina Dospay, Aigerim Sarybay, Anastasia Gulik and Kaisha Zhanibek, having beaten Thailand 45:32, lost in the quarterfinals to the hosts of the Asian Games – 40:45.

Medal history

Before the current tournament, Kazakhstan had won three gold, four silver and 13 bronze medals in fencing at the Asian Games. The 14th bronze, already in Nagoya, was won by Artyom Sarkisyan. The 15th – by the women's epee team, the 16th – by the sabre fencers. Kirill Prokhodov's medal at the 2026 Asian Games became the fifth silver. And the epee fencers won the fourth gold.

About the 2026 Asian Games

The 20th Summer Asian Games officially opened on September 19 and will end on October 4. Athletes from 45 countries are competing for 460 sets of medals. Kazakhstan's national team at the 2026 Asian Games includes 558 athletes in 35 sports.

The first days of the Games

On the first day of the Games, Kazakhstan won four gold medals. The champions of the Games were cyclists Rinata Sultanova and Alexey Lutsenko, as well as karateka Zholaman Bigabyl and Sofya Berultseva. The fifth gold was added to the team's tally by MMA fighter Yerkingali Burkutalin. The sixth – by his teammate in mixed martial arts, Kadyrbek Shynbayev. On September 23, Lutsenko became a two-time champion of the 2026 Asian Games. The eighth gold medal was won on September 24 by rowers Vladislav Yakovlev and Ivan Chernukhin in the men's coxless pairs. Yasmina Toksanbayeva today won the ninth gold in race walking.

After seven days of the Games, Kazakhstan occupied fifth place in the unofficial medal standings.
