Kazakhstan's women's team secured another victory at the 46th World Chess Olympiad in Uzbekistan. In the third round, the Kazakh players defeated their Slovenian opponents 3.5:0.5. The men's team lost to France by the same score. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.

The final score in the match against Slovenia was set by 15-year-old Elnaz Kalikhamet. The young Kazakh player, playing white, wore down Nadiya Shpanko on move 73.

Alua Nurman and Zarina Nurgaliyeva won with black pieces. Bibisara Assaubayeva secured the second draw in Samarkand on board one.

398 teams, 1974 chess players, and 240 grandmasters are taking part in the 46th World Chess Olympiad in Samarkand.

The tournament is held according to the Swiss system in 11 rounds. Each team consists of 4 players and 1 reserve. The time control is classical – 90 minutes for the first 40 moves, plus another 30 minutes. After each move, 30 seconds are added.

For a victory in a match, a team receives two team points, for a draw – one. In case of equality of points, additional indicators come into force — the Berger coefficient (the number of points scored by opponents), as well as the sum of individual points of each team member.

The winners of the men's tournament are awarded the Lord Frederick Gustavus Hamilton-Russell Cup, and the women's – the Vera Menchik Cup. The federation that becomes the best by the lowest sum of places of both teams is awarded the Nona Gaprindashvili Cup.
